I’ve picked up a lot of stuff this week so let’s dive straight into it!
TMNT Ninja Stealth Bike, Bebop Action figure and TMNT Sewer Sandcruiser
I went to a flea market and found the Ninja Stealth bike and the Sewer Sandcruiser for a very good price (€5 each). I know that they aren’t complete but for that kind of money I don’t really care. The Bebop figure (from the Out of the Shadows movie) is brand new and was on sale for €6.99; not a bad price for a figure that originally sold for €14.99.
X-Men Apocalypse (Blu-Ray)
The weakest film from the ‘new’ X-Men trilogy (First class, Days of Future Past and Apocalypse) but I needed it to further complete my Marvel movie collection. It was only €8 so it’s not that bad of a deal.

Wonder Woman is having some great success at the box office and both fans and critics seem to love the movie. But let’s take a little trip into the past to Suicide Squad; a movie that looked really fun in the trailers but the end product just couldn’t deliver.
The idea behind Suicide Squad is nice but they just didn’t work it out properly. The Suicide Squad is mostly used to go on ‘black ops’ missions so when things go wrong there isn’t a connection with the US. In Suicide Squad they fight against Enchantress; a typical villain that could be perfectly combated with Batman, the Flash or any other member of the Justice League. It just doesn’t make sense why they would use the Suicide Squad for something like this. Besides that, Enchantress was another ‘meh’ villain; how many times are we going to see a baddie use something in the sky to destroy the world? It is getting pretty old.
Then there’s the problem of just having too many characters. It worked in The Avengers because they all (well for the most part) had solo movies which set up their character. In Suicide Squad we see a short introduction to the character and that’s where it ends for most of them. Some (like Harley Quinn and Deadshot) get a little more back-story but just not enough for you to actually care about any of them. They also put the Joker into this and I can’t figure out why; OK, he’s an essential part of Harley’s origin but they could have stopped at that. Now we get a bunch of scenes that are just unnecessary because they don’t really do anything to the plot. Jared Leto’s portrayal of the Joker was OK but it’s definitely not my favorite. Taking about acting; none of the performances really stand out. They are all OK but nothing special.
Conclusion:Combine all those things with lackluster action scenes and you have a movie that was destined to fail. It also didn’t help that they re shot a bunch of scenes to lighten to tone because it just doesn’t fit in the grand scheme of things. Suicide Squad could have been a decent film for the DCEU but it ended up being a failure.
First thoughts: DC Animated films are usually pretty good and this one looks promising. Batman and Harley Quinn teaming up is a fun idea (they also work together in Injustice 2) so it might just work. I’m not a big fan of the voice of Harley but maybe I’ll get used to it. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments!
First thoughts: The trailer might just show a little too much but it does make hyped for the movie so it has served its purpose (even though I’m not a big fan of trailers spoiling a ton of a movie. The Justice Trailer showed how to make a good trailer that doesn’t give away a lot of important stuff so it’s a shame that Spider-Man Homecoming didn’t go the same route). Tom Holland as Spider-Man is just great; he’s a down to earth, witty guy which just fits the role of Spider-Man. It’s also really great that we see Iron-Man in this movie; something that just wasn’t possible before. Overall I’m pretty excited for this movie but what do you guys think? Let me know in the comments!
My thoughts: This trailer was the weakest of the three (in my opinion) but it still did a pretty good job to hype me up for the movie. I really hope that Wonder Woman turns out to be a good (or even decent) movie so that DC can build on that for their future films. All the trailers so far gave me the feeling that this movie could be good but trailers can be deceiving so who knows. I’ll be doing a full review when the movie hits the theaters.
First thoughts: This looks like a really fun movie. Some of the sequences in the trailer are just amazing (the dive especially) and the fighting scenes/the scenery look stunning. I’m just curious how the story and the characters will hold up. The DCEU has never had a problem with great looking films but it does have a problem with telling a good and interesting story. This film might turn that around though. I’ll do a full review of the film in June. What do you think about the trailer? Let me know in the comments!
Last week I promised that I would pick up something horror related (October is Halloween month) but did I keep my promise? Let’s find out!
Uncharted 4 (PS4)
I’ve wanted to play this ever since the release but I wasn’t willing to pay full price for it so I waited for a sale. Yesterday I found that Gamemania was selling it for €29.98; a bargain price for what’s (according to reviews) one of the best PS4 games out there.
The Thing two movie set and The Pact (blu-ray)
I’ve only seen the original The Thing (The Thing from Another World) but I’ve heard lots of good things about the 1982 John Carpenter version. This set includes the 1982 version and the 2011 remake; a great deal for €5. I also got ‘The Pact’ but I don’t really know anything about it. I bought it solely because Caity Lotz (the White Canary in Arrow/Legends of Tomorrow) is in it.
