Weekly Pick-Ups: Week 98: Christmas Edition!

Happy holidays everyone! I got some sweet gifts from my family and I picked some other things up as well!

Arrow Season 3 – 4 – 5 (Blu-Ray)

A gift that I got from my dad who knows that I love the show. I’m not a huge fan of season 4 but I’m still thankful for it because now I own every season of Arrow on blu-ray. Pretty sweet.

Super Mario 3D Land (3DS)

I’m steadily growing my 3DS collection and this one was a must have from day one. I’ve played it a fair bit and I love it!

Saruman POP

My brother got this as a surprise gift and it’s great! I’m not the biggest Funko pop fan but this one looks really really good!

Ghost Recon Wildlands, Diablo 3 and Just Cause 3 (PS4)

Two games that my mom got me. Both were on my ‘wanted’ list for a while and I’ve played a bit of Ghost Recon and so far it’s pretty good. The guide for Just Cause 3 is a great extra! I’m a sucker for physical guide of games so this one is right up my alley! Diablo 3 is a bit of a risk; I wanted it for PC but I got the PS4 version just to see how it’s like and if it is fun to play on a console. If I don’t like then I’ll buy the PC version.

King Dedede Amiibo

I’m trying to get all the Kirby related Amiibo’s and with this one I’m one step closer to completing my collection!

NES/Famicom compendium!

It’s an unofficial book featuring all of the NES/Famicom games. It’s well made and the illustrations in the book are great. Great collectible to have!

Super Mario Bros 3 Pixel Pal

This just looks great and it looks even better in the dark with the light on (see picture below). Just a lovely collectible that I bought for myself.

Weekly Pick-Ups: Week 95!

The madness continues with another HUGE haul!

Lord of the Rings: Third Age (Xbox)

Last week I got the game for the PS2 but that disc was damaged so it didn’t work. So I went on eBay and found myself a copy of the game for the original Xbox. The game is complete and in very good condition and most importantly; it works.

Call of Duty WWII Limited Edition Crate, Call of Duty WWII Guide and Call of Duty WWII (PS4)

Yes, I’m a fan of the latest title in the Call of Duty franchise. The single player is awesome and the multiplayer, even with the current flaws, is still fun to play. I already did an unboxing for the limited edition crate; you can find the video a bit further down on my blog. And then finally I bought the guide. I’m a sucker for physical  guides and this one is really high quality (hardcover for the win!). I mostly use it for zombies but it still fun to read when I have a couple of minutes to spare.

Need for Speed Payback (PS4)

I can be pretty brief on this one; I haven’t played it yet and the reviews don’t seem all that amazing. I got it because the trailers looked promising and I wanted an ‘easy’ racing game to play when I’m not playing FIFA/Call of Duty. I’ll let you guys know what I think of it when I find some time to play it.

Assassins Creed 3: Join or Die Edition (PS3)

It was cheap and it’s complete; so why not? I’ve played a fair bit of this game but I never managed to complete it. I might give it another go when I find some time for it (which won’t be in the next few weeks).

What’s your favorite Call of Duty game? Let me know in the comments!

Weekly Pick-Ups: Week 94!

A huge haul this week; I bought a lot of games for 3 different consoles!

Conflict Desert Storm 1 + 2 and Lord of the Rings Third Age (PS2)

I never owned the original Conflict Desert Storm but I did play the first level a lot on a demo that came with the official Playstation magazine. The second one is just an overall improvement and it’s still fun to play. Lord of the Rings Third Age is a bit of a sad story; it’s one of my favorite LOTR games but the disc is damaged so it doesn’t work properly. I bought a new copy (for the original Xbox) and that should be on its way !

Spider-Man Edge of Time + Green Lantern (PS3)

Two solid additions to my ever growing ‘superhero’ gaming collection. I’ve completed the Spider-Man game before and I loved it but I haven’t played the Green Lantern game. I hope it’s better than the movie because that was rubbish.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus Collector’s Edition + Assassins Creed Origins Deluxe Edition + Friday The 13th (PS4)

So many games; so little time. I’ve completed the main story of Wolfenstein II and let me tell you; it’s amazing. The story is solid and it has its fair share of ‘WTF’ moments and the gameplay feels smooth. I haven’t gotten around to play Assassins Creed but my co worker absolutely loves it so I’m pretty excited to dive into it. And last but certainly not least; Friday The 13th. What better game to play on Halloween night than a game based on one of the most famous slasher franchises. The game isn’t perfect and has some glaring issues but when you find a good set of players it’s really fun to play.

Weekly Pick-Ups: Week 87!

This week I get a replica straight from Middle-Earth and I listen to some crazy beats whilst travelling in a maze!

Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 (PS4)

I love the first Pac-Man Championship game (I love it so much that I bought it twice!) so when I saw the sequel on sale for a couple of Euros I didn’t think twice about picking it up. It isn’t as great as the first one but it’s still a very fun and solid Pac-Man game.

Sting Replica!

This is something that I didn’t purchase myself; I got it as a gift from my parents. It’s a 67 cm replica of Sting; the blade used by Frodo in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The sword is beautiful and well detailed. Thanks mom and dad!

Weekly Pick-Ups: Week 69!

In this week’s edition of ‘Weekly pick ups’ I go on a trip in Middle Earth and I revisit my childhood with some Lego!

Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor GOTY (PC)

I’ve played this game before on PS4 and I wasn’t a big fan of it. I felt like the game got very repetitive very quickly and that turned me away from it. I sold it and moved on but I kept seeing footage of it on YouTube and it just looked a lot better than I imagined it so I decided to give it a second chance. I went for the PC version simply because it was cheaper than the PS4 one. Hopefully I’ll enjoy it much more this time but only time will tell.

Lego Dimensions starter pack and Aquaman fun pack (PS3)

What’s there to say? Lego sets are pretty cool and making it into a game is a very smart idea. I didn’t jump on the Skylanders/Disney Infinty hype train because I didn’t want to collect another set of figurines. That isn’t a problem with Lego Dimensions because I already collect Lego stuff (mostly superhero/movie related sets). I went for the PS3 version because of the huge price difference (the starter pack on PS3 was €35; the one for PS4 was €75) and it gives me a reason to dust of my PS3.

What’s your favorite Lord of the Rings game? Mine’s definitely the original Battle for Middle Earth; some sweet RTS action set in Middle Earth? YES! Let me know what your favorite game is in the comments below!

Weekly Pick-Ups: Week 65!

The holidays are behind us and that means that a lot of big games are going to be released in the next couple of months. I also picked up one game (in the Steam sale) but it wasn’t a very new game. I also got a blu-ray set for Christmas and a couple of comics. Let’s get to it!

Dead Rising 3 Apocalypse Edition

I’m a big fan of the Dead Rising games and I was pretty sad when I found out it was an Xbox One/PC exclusive when it was released(back then I only had a PS4). But since its release I’ve gotten a gaming PC so when I saw this on sale I didn’t hesitate to buy it! A lot of stuff that made the previous Dead Rising games challenging has been changed; you can now save from a menu instead of going to a bathroom and you can combine weapons directly from the menu (if you have the blueprint); in the previous games you needed a work bench for that. These changes make the overall experience a little easier but not less fun. I’m playing this in co-op with a friend and it’s a ton of fun.

The Hobbit/The Lord of The Rings Extended Edition (blu-ray)

A lovely Christmas present that I got from my parents. The Hobbit trilogy isn’t as great (it shouldn’t have been 3 movies to begin with) but I’m still pretty happy with this boxset. I already owned LOTR Extended on DVD but the blu-ray version looks just a bit better.

Batman: Court of Owls and City of Owls

I got interested in the Court of Owls because of ‘Gotham’ and that’s why I bought these two TPB’s.

Top 5 Favorite Movies !

I’m a pretty big movie guy. I own around 800 movies on DVD/blu-ray and I enjoy going to the theater to check out the latest blockbuster movie. Over the years I’ve watched some incredible movies and also some really bad ones. This list is going to be centered on that first group. I’m going to give you my personal top 5 movies of all time. Let’s do this!

5

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

Director: Peter Jackson

Notable Actors: Orlando Bloom, Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee, Elijah Wood

The first movie on my list and I’m already cheating by picking a trilogy but for me it’s impossible to pick between these 3. Everything about these movies is just right; the casting is perfect, the scenery is absolutely stunning and the battles are incredible. I do a marathon of this trilogy every year (I highly recommend you watch the extended versions) and I look forward to it each year.

4

Reservoir Dogs

Director: Quentin Tarantino

Notable Actors: Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Chris Penn, Michael Madsen, Steve Buscemi

Quentin Tarantino is a great director and he has made some incredible films (Django Unchained, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill …) but my favorite Tarantino movie is still Reservoir Dogs. The dialogue in this movie is so good that it makes up for the lack of action. The suspense is really well done and the music is just perfect. I’m such a big fan that I have a big poster of the film hanging over my desk (see picture).

3

The Godfather Part 2

Director: Francis Ford Coppola

Notable Actors: Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Robert Duvall

I know, picking the sequel over the original. I like the original Godfather but I feel like the sequel takes all the good things of the first movie and makes them even better. Al Pacino is brilliant as Michael Corleone.

2

Dawn of the Dead (1978 version)

Director: George A. Romero

Notable Actors: David Emge, Ken Foree, Gaylen Ross, Scott H. Reiniger

For me Dawn of the Dead is THE definitive zombie movie. It has great characters, a great location (a shopping mall is the perfect location for a movie about a zombie outbreak) and the special effects are really well done. The 2004 remake is also pretty enjoyable but it’s not as good as the original.

1

Scarface (the 1983 version)

Director: Brian De Palma

Notable Actors: Al Pacino, Steven Bauer, Michelle Pfeiffer, Paul Shenar

Cliché choice maybe but I absolutely love this movie. Everything about is just perfect; the location, the music (I own a physical copy of the soundtrack), the characters; it’s a perfect blend which results in an absolute classic. GTA Vice City is my favorite GTA game because it captures the 80’s vibe so well and that game is partially based on Scarface; so it isn’t big surprise that this movie is my favorite film of all time. Al Pacino IS Tony Montana.
