This week I went to visit an asylum and I bought the highest rated DCEU movie!
Wonder Woman (blu-ray)
Wonder Woman is my favorite DCEU movie for a number of reasons; the action scenes are solid, the dialogue has a good mix between serious and goofy and the build up to the final fight is excellent. There are off course things that I didn’t enjoy (I’m not a huge fan of using so many slow mo shots) but overall it’s a really good movie! Seeing this made me even more excited for the upcoming Justice League film!
Manhunt 2 (PS2)
Working in a game shop has its perks and finding gems like this for cheap is definitely one of them. I paid €7.99 for this game and it’s in very good condition and complete. On eBay (I know that eBay prices are a bit inflated) one sold last week for €28 (and that came with a €12 shipping cost). Being a fan of the Manhunt series (real shame that it never got a third installment) I look forward to play the second one.

First thoughts: I have been excited for this movie ever since the first teaser dropped and this trailer just fuels my excitement. Some of the shots in this trailer are just drop dead gorgeous! Justice League seems to be a great mix between action and humor; something that previous DCEU movies had trouble with (Ezra Miller is hilarious as the Flash). I’m also pumped to see Ben Affleck as Batman again; he was one of the highlights of Batman v Superman. But what do you guys think? Let me know in the comments!
Wonder Woman is having some great success at the box office and both fans and critics seem to love the movie. But let’s take a little trip into the past to Suicide Squad; a movie that looked really fun in the trailers but the end product just couldn’t deliver.
The idea behind Suicide Squad is nice but they just didn’t work it out properly. The Suicide Squad is mostly used to go on ‘black ops’ missions so when things go wrong there isn’t a connection with the US. In Suicide Squad they fight against Enchantress; a typical villain that could be perfectly combated with Batman, the Flash or any other member of the Justice League. It just doesn’t make sense why they would use the Suicide Squad for something like this. Besides that, Enchantress was another ‘meh’ villain; how many times are we going to see a baddie use something in the sky to destroy the world? It is getting pretty old.
Then there’s the problem of just having too many characters. It worked in The Avengers because they all (well for the most part) had solo movies which set up their character. In Suicide Squad we see a short introduction to the character and that’s where it ends for most of them. Some (like Harley Quinn and Deadshot) get a little more back-story but just not enough for you to actually care about any of them. They also put the Joker into this and I can’t figure out why; OK, he’s an essential part of Harley’s origin but they could have stopped at that. Now we get a bunch of scenes that are just unnecessary because they don’t really do anything to the plot. Jared Leto’s portrayal of the Joker was OK but it’s definitely not my favorite. Taking about acting; none of the performances really stand out. They are all OK but nothing special.
Conclusion:Combine all those things with lackluster action scenes and you have a movie that was destined to fail. It also didn’t help that they re shot a bunch of scenes to lighten to tone because it just doesn’t fit in the grand scheme of things. Suicide Squad could have been a decent film for the DCEU but it ended up being a failure.
My thoughts: This trailer was the weakest of the three (in my opinion) but it still did a pretty good job to hype me up for the movie. I really hope that Wonder Woman turns out to be a good (or even decent) movie so that DC can build on that for their future films. All the trailers so far gave me the feeling that this movie could be good but trailers can be deceiving so who knows. I’ll be doing a full review when the movie hits the theaters.
First thoughts: This looks like a really fun movie. Some of the sequences in the trailer are just amazing (the dive especially) and the fighting scenes/the scenery look stunning. I’m just curious how the story and the characters will hold up. The DCEU has never had a problem with great looking films but it does have a problem with telling a good and interesting story. This film might turn that around though. I’ll do a full review of the film in June. What do you think about the trailer? Let me know in the comments!
